Team building

Each company has its own motivation for doing a team building course: to integrate newly hired staff, to brainstorm on company issues outside the office or to promote better team spirit. Whatever the objective is, I conduct team building courses that will help your group open up lines of communication and reinforce interpersonal relationships; my role could be seen as Dialogue Enabler. I am committed to helping participants go from discussion (whose etymology signifies “to shake or break up”) to dialogue (dia logos = flow of meaning, together). Members of any team can benefit from being given a safe place in which they can share their professional expectations and challenges, build mutual understanding and respect, and explore team values. I often begin one of these workshops with a tool that will give participants a common language and approach to understanding human behaviour and which also serves as a solid foundation that they can refer to after the seminar. Some of the tools that I use are: Myers Briggs Type Indicator, FIRO-B, or Transactional Analysis. Creative communication and awareness raising are both the underlying themes and ultimate objectives of such a workshop.

Effective communication: building bridges

All our relationships are bridges: I have a bridge with my colleague, a bridge with my boss, a bridge with my friend, etc. Why do those bridges break sometimes? How important is it for me to keep that bridge? Do I want to fix the bridge or fix the blame? Transactional Analysis is a valuable tool for self-understanding and for understanding how others function and relate to the world. This course is interesting for anyone who wants to work in a more pleasant atmosphere, to deal more effectively in delicate professional situations and to understand the roots of conflict and how to deal with conflict in the future.

My Workshops

We all know communicating is a fundamental need without having to consult Maslow. French psychoanalyst Françoise Dolto called communication the law of the living and yet it’s not easy in spite of pigeons, smoke signals, morse code, snail mail, telephone, e-mail, text messages, video conferences, chat, webcam, etc. We have all the means and capabilities to exchange information and it is still so challenging to communicate in a constructive way with our colleagues, hierarchy, friends, partners. How much of our daily existence is spent communicating with others? On a scale between unsatisfactory and extremely satisfying, where do we place our own communication? Why is there little meaningful dialogue? Why is it so difficult to communicate with certain people—the complainers, the victims, the lazy, the unmotivated, the aggressive? What I offer in my courses is a variety of approaches and tools and my trainees can choose which ideas “speak” to them. If you are interested in taking a step towards self-awareness, if you sense that communicating well with ourselves is a prerequisite for sound communication with others, and if you wish to dive into the vast mystery of human behaviour... these courses will interest you.

Analytical psychology highlights certain patterns that disrupt and complicate interpersonal communication, intercultural communication and team communication. I also present these mechanisms in my courses because if they remain unknown or unconscious, these perturbing elements can take control. One effective way of dethroning these “internal tyrants” seems to be by simply welcoming them and integrating them into our consciousness. My experience in this profession has revealed time and again that the deeper our level of consciousness, the more confidence we have: self-awareness and self-confidence are, for me, intimately linked.

Here are some short presentations of the kinds of workshops that I enjoy facilitating. Each course is specially designed and personalized to meet your group’s needs. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me for further details.
